If you would like to save one of the public routes so that it will show up in the My Routes list of routes, all you have to do is click on the route to view it and then click on the "Add to My Routes" link on the top of the page next to the name of the route as shown below. This will create a new copy of the route and save it to your my routes list. Since it is a copy of a public route you will not need to make your version public - but you are free to edit the description and name of the route.
