Brazillian Dog
Thursday, 02 April 2009 - Written by jmccaman [profile]
Last week our student ministry went on a mission trip to Brazil. I was concerned that the trip would majorly interrupt my running, so I planned to at least get 2 runs in while I was there. One morning my husband and I decided to go for a 30 minute jog off the property where we were staying. About 10 minutes into the run, we turned a corner and a furious dog got out of its fence and seemed ready to attack. My husband stepped in front of me and yelled at me to get behind him. The dog came right up to him, and I was terrified! Thankfully, the dog's Portuguese owner was around and yelling at him to leave us alone. We weren't hurt, but I definitely ran with a big rock in my pocket the rest of the time! Needless to say, we did not run off the property the rest of the week. I ran a little around the soccer field, but that was it! I have a lot of catching up to do before the half. Tchau!

Whew! Every seasoned runner has at least one good dog story........glad you lived to tell about it.

I have a few. Was bitten by a German Shepherd 7 years ago on a local bike path. Ten stitches on my right hand. Yup, it hurt...
Also shared a run in a rural area for 30-40 minutes with a amazingly friendly American pitbull in NC last summer. Weird!

Thanks for your encouragement with the dogs. I can't believe you got bit by a German Shepherd! That is crazy! Dogs are one of the reasons I hate running by myself. I guess your right that it's kind of a running right-of-passage. Thanks!
