| So, I'm not quite sure of my abilities at this point. I was training for my first 50(I've run marathons and a 50k), and then I went on a road trip for a month, and pretty much got in one 90 mile week at one point because we were stranded. Other than that, it was pretty sporadic. On the upside, it was all at altitude. I had a very solid 70 mpw base before the trip. The 50 is 4 weeks away. My super crazy plan is to do one 90 mile week, 2 100's, then a 20 mile week the week of the race and hit it hard. My only issue is that I don't really want to 'just run it'. I kinda wanna win, so I'm really not sure I'm in my best shape for it. I'm not going to enter until that 1 week out phase to see where I'm at. This weekend I think I'm going to try to put in a really slow 35er with some walk breaks at the local trail(multiple loops of 6-7ish miles) and see how hard it gets after 20. That should be a good gauge because I know that whatever I do after the end of next week really isn't going to affect my performance for the better, it'll only hurt it. Hopefully it doesn't hurt me too much..... I really don't like going into things feeling too unprepared. My thoughts are also if I could manage to drop somewhere around 5 pounds between now and then, it should be easier so I'm going to focus on diet a little too. It's easy to get stuck into that 'I run so much it doesn't really matter what I eat' zone, but while I might not ever gain any weight, I do always feel better if I eat better. Whenever I get beyond 80 mpw though I get this hunger that just doesn't quit!!! I'll probably make another entry next weekend after this insane schedule is going full force. I was hoping to run a local 5 or 10k prior also to gauge performance, but there isn't one around between now and the 50, so oh well. One foot in front of the other.......... |
