| So, a few months back I injured myself unexpectedly. I was training for Jacksonville at around 90 mpw, and one morning on an easy 8 that I had run countless times before, I felt a stabbing pain in my knee that had me walking back home. This was in late September/early October. I am only now beginning to get over it and up the mileage again. I am in Daytona now and previously I had been in northern NJ running non-stop hills(literally!)- so I believe that aggravated it. So since Jax never materialized, I decided to be a little more ambitious. I'm gonna run the Croom Fools 50 miler on April 11th and win. That's the plan anyway! I've still got a little bit of a limp in my stride(quite noticeably)- but it goes away the faster I go. I've got my new training plan all together now- I'm gonna try to lay off the hills as much as possible and focus on speed and distance, as well as core and upper leg strength at the gym(which happens to be my backyard at the moment). What I've noticed after a couple months of not running coming off 90+ mile weeks- my 800 interval pace is now about 15-20 seconds slower(it def feels that way too)- and my endurance has suffered- I can't sustain a high pace for that long anymore and my longer run pace has suffered at least 30 seconds per mile. Hopefully I can get all that back and then some prior to the race- I'm hoping to run the 50, then possibly the Keys 100, then hopefully someday the the WS100 and Badwater. My first ultra was only a 50K last year prior to my IT band problem, but I did manage a 4th place finish(no, there weren't only 4 people in the race!). So my next few months of running should be very interesting..... glad to be back though. It sucks not running. |
