Beyond Comfort

Since the marathon on October 9th, I have only done easy runs. Last night I wanted to do a short run. I was thinking about 20 minutes would be good. As I strapped on my Garmin I thought of a couple Tweets from Jeff Galloway. One is about each time you push through a discomfort barrier you are making it easier to do next time. The other is "Speed is mostly for the ego...but there's nothing wrong with a weekly ego boost." The led me to decide to pick up the pace. I started off slow to let my body warm up. At just over 3/4 of a mile I picked up the pace. I was running outside of my breath. I would prefer to have had more burn in my legs, but my breathing was just too labored already. After about a mile I dropped my pace to my normal as a cool down. I don't do speed work very often. Frankly, I don't feel that I am good at it, but it did feel like a good workout. I will have to continue to learn how to work speed into some of my runs.

Looks to me like you chose "strong" for the day.
