Dazed...got the standing 8 count

Decided to add more milage to a couple of my run days and subtract from a couple. This would keep my milage about the same but add in a few recovery days. Today was the first day of the plan. I took of with the plan of going 6.9 miles (1.5 miles farther than I have been doing previously). I started off at my regular pace. Hitting the first 3 miles in right around 8 min/miles then I checked the watch at what I thought was mile 5 and was supprised to see that I had slowed down and my time was at 41:30 instead of at an 8 min/mile at 40. Seeing this time was like taking a mental right hook to my temple. Immediatly my legs felt like jello and I felt deflaited. I came to a stop and walked about a hundred yards. I talked to myself and decided that I didnt care about time and I was just going to take off again and do the best I could. So I did. I finished in 56:29 which is an 8:13 min/mile. I realize now that it is obviouse that my invisioned mile markers were off and if I hadnt have gotten mentally rocked by the stop watch I would have finished probablyin a sub 8 min/mile pace or real close to it. Sometimes the stop watch is my biggest foe. I am not upset because I was able to regain my composuer and continue the run it just took me a mental "standing 8 count". Back to the grind stone tomorrow. Working on getting physically and MENTALLY stronger. Hope everyone has a great run and a great day.

It's a pretty thin line between encouragement and discouragement. I use to see I was behind where I thought I should be (slow pace, mile/time check) and it would encourage me to give it a little more. Like seeing that lone racer in front of you causes you to surge a little. Lately though it's just like you described, instant deflation.

I hope to one day regain that ability to be able to pull out of a slower pace and step it up but right now I'm just letting pace fly out the window. It's been easier to let go of then I thought.

Congratulations on recovering your run, especially after taking a walk.
