Great run ends in Pain

Well I went out for a 5.4 mile run this morning. I stuck to my new warm up routine and then took off. I felt great! I hit the half way point at 20:56. I then turned and headed home. Right about half way I felt a slight twinge behing my right shoulder blade. Kind of like a cramp. I just dropped my arm down a little swung it around and kept going. It started to feel a little better after about 25 meters. I was on pace and feeling great again. Until about the end of mile 5. Right at the end of mile 5 I felt my lower back tighten up and start to spasim. I slowed way down and tried to take deep breaths. It lasted for no longer than 20 seconds and I was able to pick up the pace again. I finished the run in 42:16 just under 7:50 miles. Everything was still feeling great. However after my shower my back started tightening up. Now it is real stiff. I may have pushed it too hard this week. I may take an additional day off tomorrow. It will depend on how it feels after a long soak in the tub tonight. I hope I can continue with my plan, but wont risk a long term injury if it is still hurting. I hope everyone has a great run and a wonderful day.

Sometimes I get tight shoulders or a tight back on my longer runs. And I end up having shake it out and conciously make sure my hands are low and near my hips.

Once the shoulders get tight it's like falling dominos. Tight shoulders lead to conpensation somewhere else and then the back goes or the neck.

I've been there.

Stay loose!!!
