k89508 Marathon LXX Recap

Yesterday's Wisconsin Marathon was a really brutal run for me. It was a callapse at the finish line day for me. I ran a 3:52:26, which is about 26 minutes slower than I had hoped and then found a grassy spot to lay down. I needed to. I felt that exhausted. Between the dizziness and malaise, the time at the finish line was pretty touch and go.

Overall, it was a pretty day, and a beautiful course. The changes they made on the south end were a definite improvement, and I was glad to see they got rid of the silly 1k loop around the Museum in the beginning.

Felt pretty good until k23, and had an ok time going until k32, then had to walk quite a bit. Ached all over, but especially hips, shoulders, and neck. I think it was sunburn.

It seemed like the sun was very intense. Loved the grape gatorade. They had lots of support on the course, and I took advantage of all the aid stations, drinking both water and gatorade after k27.

It was fun being cheered on by local people who recognize me from all the training runs I took by their houses normally. Normally, I must admit that I do feel invisible.

I did bring out the cheap runnercam, and it worked out better than the practice run. Although it did fill up at k27. Didn't feel much like taking pics after that anyway.

Anyway, even though I crashed, I did enjoy the run. I am grateful to all the people that were there to cheer us on. I had a fever, and the only cure for that fever was more cowbell. It is cured for now.

The drum corps at k30 was cool. And the Navy guys did a great job directing us around the southern end of the course.

Finished Week 2010.17 with 84 klicks, my largest week since last May.

Finally thanks to everybody that wished me luck.

Congrats on the marathon! I would be very happy with that time.
