| Todays 10k run has made me realise one thing - you practice and you get there.. all through school, high school and college I was a sprinter and a jumper and won a lot of medals too (only last week I was showing off to my 6yr old all of those .. and it was fun) .. but never ever could imagine myself running for hours... I always thought I am not made for that .. dont have the stamina... and then for almost abt 10 years had no form of exercise in my life... and it was only after my first preganancy that I hit the gym and became a regular with the walks, weights, some bit of cross trainer and treadmill... but that was it.. watching others run marathons was motivating but I knew I cant run for long... till a friend (in his 50s) and my sister ran the half marathon this feb. and I got thinking can I do it... but the mental block of "I run fast not far" was always there.. its just been 5 weeks and that I can run a 5k-8k distance.. well for me therefore is a big thing... I like it and I will be at it.. |

Like you I was a sprinter, jumper, etc. And also like you it's been many years of little if any exercise. I had a breakthrough week myself, but it's probably another 2-3 weeks before I can run 10K without having to walk some of it.
I know you know you can do it, but let me throw this little story out there. Back in 1992 when I ran my one and only marathon completely unprepared I had this experience. I was flying up until mile 15 and then I went from thinking what's the big deal about marathons, this isn't so bad, to oh boy I'm in serious trouble.
Well from about mile 16 to mile 19 I watched quite a few 250-300 pounders zip on by me, a man carrying a monster flag, a woman running barefoot, and a kid that hardly even came up to my waist. I decided right then and there I would finish even if I had to crawl. I don't want to take anything away from them, they certainly had something I didn't. But there was one thing we all had in common, we all knew we could do it, and we all did it.

Isn't is a cool feeling to realize after a few months of hard work and discipline that you can achieve something like running a long distance.
I never thought I could do it. I have been quoted saying, "I can't run. My ankles are weak. " or I can't run, I'm just not made for it." WRONG!!!!!
Keep it up and keep inspiring others!
mohanty401 says: Mury : Cant believe that you ran a Marathon with no training.... But I agree that its the will that keeps you on the road....makes you get over the mental barrier as Johnnyk8 said...
I wish you success with your running and I know you will be there soon...!!
