Running shoes for flat feet
Wednesday, 03 March 2010 - Written by RoRunner [profile]
I'm looking to buy a pair of running shoes that help with overpronation. I'm a moderate to severe overpronator. I've read that Brooks Beast, Asics Evolution, and NB 1011 are the best. Any advice?

Take the guess work out of it. Go to a running store and pay the little extra to get the right shoes. It will make a huge difference. After you know what type you need you can shop at zappos.

^^ agree with johnnyk8, though with the caveat that i was fitted for shoes by a running store and have since completely disregarded their recommendation.

rather than running in the stability shoes i was fitted for (which caused an injury over time), i'm now running in the most minimal shoes that fit my feet, and working on better mechanics rather than relying on a shoe to correct my stride for me.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into that!

misstressk - what kind of injury did you get from your shoes? I don't know what it feels like to run in motion control shoes, so I have no idea what kind of pain these shoes give. I've been going back in forth between buying motion control shoes, or paying up the nose for some custom inserts. And, what do you mean about minimal shoes, something like Nike Free?

RoRunner,
I seriously heeded johnnyk8's advice and have got myself a proper running shoes and it has made a lot of difference to my running... no knee pains (I had started wearing knee supports with my old shoes but dont need that now) and my biggest paid area were my ankles and they dont pain at all now..
I bought an Adidas Supernova Glide2m... (at a full rate just 2 weeks after the adidas sales ended but worth the price absolutely)..

I have read about minimal shoes but just can't make the leap yet. Its a very convincing argument. Since I'm a mid to forefoot striking I have been hesitant to do so. I see that most of the minimal shoes discussion revolves around heel strikers.
