Proud and Inspiring

I did my long run of 9 miles today. I felt great. I had no pain and I actually ran 9 miles faster today than I did 8.4 last week. I really felt happy for myself when I finished. While I was doing a little stretching and recovering at Griffith Park in Los Angeles where I ran, I saw a lady in her mid-50's or higher, who weighed at least 230 lbs. I could tell that she had ran and walked a long way. She was flanked by her 300 plus lb. husband and two other people that were trying to motivate her. I thought maybe she was training with the aids marathon group that trains in Griffith Park on the weekend and who were doing a 12 mile run today. I called out to her and asked if she was finishing up 12 miles. She could barely talk, so one of the motivators next to her informed me that she was just finishing up her first 1/2 marathon. Tears welled in my eyes thinking how much she had been through mentally and physically to endure the 13.1 miles. It made my 9 miles seem small given that I am probably at least 10 years younger than her and in better, though not good shape. To whoever you were out there today, congratulations! You should be proud of yourself and thank you for inspiring me today!
