the fourth week

Today concludes week 4 of our training program.
Tuesday was so normal that I can't even recall what exactly it was that we did (I assume we ran 2.2 miles, with a short sprint at the end).
Thursday was fun. Because of Beth's enthusiasm, we picked up two of our colleagues to join us in our sprints. I say it was Beth's enthusiasm that did it because I was so against the idea originally that I'm sure I acted like a pouting child when she sprung it on me; I'm so self-conscious about my running ability that the idea of bringing along other people made me panic and automatically reject it without even thinking. Anyway, it was an asshole move on my part, but it worked out in the end. The four of us worked HARD (and I felt it for the next 2 days). We did 12 sprints, and then walked up 15 floors to our offices. Luckily we got a great picture out of it for our album.
Today was the long run, and this week we're up to 6 miles. It was very tricky this week because I'm home in Canada on a 10 day data collection trip, and this is the first run that I've done without my buddy. I didn't know how it would go, but I surprised myself and did it in an hour and 12 minutes. At the time I was thinking "wow, am I ever running slowly and taking a lot of breaks"; if I can have those thoughts with that time, then I'm confident that this 10K in Colorado at the end of the month is going to be great!
Feelin' groovy.
