helping my daughter helps me

My freshman daughter decided after school started that she wanted to join the cross country team. This is a surprise because she always boasts about being a sprinter, although she actually isn't that fast. I can easily catch her and I am 44 years old. I think there must be a boy involved in this somehow.

Well she has had 3 meets and I am ready to gouge my eyes out. She has no competitive spirit what so ever. I know that doesnt come from me. In her first race she was actually jogging backwards while talking to a team mate. It was hard to be quiet as she ran passed me. Anyway. She has potential. the coach loves her long stride and she always finishes races strong, mainly because she hasnt even broke a sweat. She is running between 11.5 and 13.5 minute miles during the races. I came up with a way to motivate her. Her and I will race on the weekends. If she beats me then I will reward her with an hour of driving lessons in my big red truck, which she thinks she's getting when she gets her liscense. If I win she has to do some chore around the house. It won't be easy or pleasant. Actually I win either way. She will get better by racing me because she always has the desire to beat me at anything. It will make me a faster runner for my half marathon

in November. When she finally does beat me, I still win. Plus I get father daughter time with my teenage daughter. I am not that smart, I don't know how I thought of something that works out so well for me. I will let you know how it's going later.

That is great! I have been trying to get my daughter just to talk to me or even look at me anymore. Now she is turning 19 and started college I think that I missed that opportunity, but at least we had our early years when I wasn't such a dork to her. I think that you are doing a good thing. She might end up with that truck afterall and both of you in better shape.
