the first week

Today concludes the first week of the training program that Beth has set up for her and I.

She's such a trooper and it's already been so miserable. Every day I finish the run feeling like I'm going to die, and she's bouncing around saying things like "I could do this again!". Curse people who have been athletic and in shape their entire lives. It makes the rest of us normal people look like crap in the comparison.

Tuesday was uneventful, other than my surprise that I could actually run 4-5 minutes without needing to take a walk break (I thought it would be more like 2).

Thursday was extra-miserable. It was raining like a bitch outside, and we were tempted to call off the run...but it was the second day! If we quit then, then we would be dooming ourselves to failure. So we ran anyway, and got soaked all the way through.

Today (Sunday) was our "long" run. Only three miles, but still daunting for this novice. It was raining and horrid outside again (damn you, April), so we went to the indoor track to run. Beth kept going pretty much the entire time without stopping, but I had eaten too close to running time and wasn't sure if I could push myself that hard without puking...next time I'll stick to just juice beforehand. I felt kinda bad for not being able to keep up with her, but did feel better when we challenged each other to a 100m sprint and my gangly legs gave me the advantage.

Still can't believe that I've lost 5 pounds already. That's 4% of my body weight! Too bad it all came off my ass and left me with a flat behind. I guess I'll have to address that in cross training...
