| It's been over a month since my last post but I'll still try to keep it short. I ran 6.2 miles early this morning at a 9:56 avg pace. It was clear and about 49 degrees when I started the run. The sun came up at about the 3 mile mark and man was it beautiful! I'm on my way to my highest mileage month to date and am 32.86 miles ahead of my goal for the year. I won't be running in the 5K I had scheduled for March 31st because my son has a swim meet out of town that day and I don't want to miss it. Hope everybodys running is going well. Cheers! |
MidwesternWoman says: What a wonderful run! Good distance, nice pace, and a peaceful morning. It doesn't get much better than that.
KathyStenson says: Really nice to see your post...I was wondering how you're doing. Glad all is well!!
lazyking says: Good job! Congrats on a new montly mileage PR and good luck to your son. Comment on this post |

| I got in a nice easy 3 miles today and it was one of the most enjoyable runs I've had in a long time. Coming off my longest run ever (7.1 miles) on Saturday I really needed a good recovery run to work out the kinks. I asked my wife if she felt like going with me and she suprised me when she said yes. She's not running outdoors on a regular basis but has been logging some miles on the treadmill when we go to the gym (M, W, Fr). I picked an out and back route on a nice paved trail through a nature park so that added to the beauty of the run. We ran the first mile at just over 11 minute pace so we were able to carry on a nice conversation. She headed back at that point and I went on to the turn around. I LOVE when my wife runs with me. Running is almost spiritual to me and it's great to be able to share that experience with my wife. BTW, I'm currently planning on running a 5K at the end of March but my training is focused on increasing my mileage. I really want to able to run 10...

KathyStenson says: What a cool morning we both had!!!
Yoga is so humbling for me, but definitely needed...I found a cool quick yoga workout for runners on On Demand...but I do like to go to classes as well. Until I do what the instructor tells us NOT to do and compare my pitiful attempts with my neighbors. It is VERY humbling to stick with something I am not good at, but I know I need it and I do like it even if I don't love it. Hey, I can touch my toes now, which is a cool thing, maybe I'll get better if I stick with it... Comment on this post |

Longest Run To Date

| Set out to run 4 or 5 miles this morning and wound up going 7.1. My previous long run was 6.2 and it was 4 months ago. Mile 5 was my fastest by 14 seconds then I lost 30 seconds in mile 6 and crawled the last 1.1 miles to finish with an average pace of 10:36. Really pleased with this run. Can't wait to log my first 10 miler. |
KathyStenson says: Way to GO!! Seems like that rib is all healed up, so good to see your post!! Refresh us, are you training for a specific event, or just keeping in great shape??!!
I did 4 miles this morning on the road...my heel doesn't care where I run, on treadmill or road, as long as I STRETCH a lot. Mine is an injury due to tight muscles not pounding. So that is good!! The tough part...stitches...they're back, just as when I first started training. I know I've just got to get out there and run some more and they'll go away again. It was an overcast day, good to be outside though I wasn't setting any land speed records!! Comment on this post |

| OK, I think the hamstring is alright. Just finished a 2.06 mile easy jog to test it and it felt tired but not injured. My legs are now officially dead! I may have to take tomorrow off but that would be ok since it's supposed to rain anyway. A break will do me good and set me up for a nice run on Sunday. Gotta get back to the office now. This is the first time I've tried running during my lunch and I'm not sure it gives me enough time but it was worth a try. Cheers! |

What was I thinking

| I was so inspired by strutton1313's blog post yesterday that I upped the ante a little this morning for my weight routine...OOPS! Not so sure that was a good idea. I think I may have tweaked a hamstring. I'll know for sure when I try to run this afternoon, I'm planning on an easy 2 or 3 miler weather permitting. This mornings weight routine consisted of squats, leg curls, leg extensions, calf raises, lower back and abs along with 2.7 miles on the elliptical. I'm not going to let this cold keep me from my task. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Get out and run! Cheers! |
billh1 says: Thanks brother. I really think it's just a tweak, nothing to keep me from running my easy run. However, it's so me to get all fired up and try to do more than I should. You'd think I'd know better by now what my limits are when it comes to weight training. Although I've only been running a year, I've been weight training all my life. Keep posting your workouts if you will because it's motivational to me to see how you are pushing yourself. Cheers!
strutton1313 says: OH man I hope your hamstring is ok!!! Give it rest and stretch. Keep us informed! Comment on this post |

Got a nasty cold!

| Went to bed last night planning on doing a 4 miler at 5:00AM this morning but woke up late with a scratchy throat and a head full of snot! Didn't have time to run then because I had overslept and on top of that I felt like poo. Took some cold and sinus meds and went on to work. All I could think about all day was trying to get a run in this afternoon. I got home around 5:00PM high on cold meds and decided to run that 4 miles I had planned on. I ate a gel pack and drank a big glass of water then changed into my running clothes and took off. I just bought an arm band for my mobile device and ran with it for the first time today. I cranked up the Foo Fighters and used the Log Your Run mobile app for the first time also. Pretty cool stuff! It posted my splits and showed elevations in addition to total time and mileage. If you haven't tried it yet you might want to. I ran a total of 4.3 miles at a 10:28 pace. A little slow but this cold has me dragging butt. BTW, the new shoes ...
