I ran 11 miles tonight. I was hoping for a full half-marathon distance, but was just too exhausted to manage those last few miles.

The half-marathon is coming up in two weeks. I'm super excited!

Ran seven miles today. Felt good. I was going to try for a longer run, but I was just so BORED after the first hour that I couldn't bring myself to loop around and do part of the course over again.

I need to get an mp3 player or something. This is bad news.

Pick up an iPod Nano, and the NIKE PLUS kit, its really neat, it tells you your progress while you are running (Lance Armstrong and other athletes talk to you) as well as you can upload your data and see it all on your screen after you are done. There are also Nike+ Tracks you can get that are designed to keep you from getting bored while running. I have the shortest attention span ever, but i downloaded a 45min Nike+ Track the other day and was able to get to 6Miles on the Treadmill (Thats my personal best so far) anyways, check it out! OH and you don't NEED nikes, I use Asics, you just buy a special adaptor to clip the transmitter onto any pair of running shoes!

So it's official. My running buddy is leaving me for bigger and better things (a fashion career in The City). I am now a lone(ly) runner.

I chose to honour the situation by buying really beautiful and expensive new kicks. Damn, they are nice.

I didn't do any running this week since this very embarrassing incident last Friday where I fainted in the doctor's office after getting a shot. I was tired and hadn't eaten anything...but still! I'm not exactly the fainting type. I was worried that my blood volume was low from dehydration associated with running, so I took some time off to recoup. I even canceled my blood donation appointment because of this. Unfortunate.

But after a week of slacking, I felt restless. I decided that I was going to a) put my new shoes to the test, and b) see if I was strong-willed enough to run a long distance solo. Since our last long distance was 10 miles, I figured it was fair to try for 11.

It was hard, but I did it. Because I'd barely moved my bo... Read full entry

SUPERSTAR!

Completing a Marathon at 5:30 is still a completion!

Great work on your 11 effing miles! You got it in you to go the distance, pace yourself, stay healthy, and rock on!

Well, here we are in the last week of July and Beth and I are still running regularly and making progress. I know, I'm surprised too. Tenacity isn't exactly my middle name.

Yesterday we decided to keep it easy - we didn't want to kill ourselves with 11 miles and be useless for the rest of the day. So we ran an easy 5.5 miles. Our pace sucked as usual, but hey - who the hell do I have to impress?

Speaking of impressing, I've noticed that people typically fall into one of two camps - they are either a) super impressed that you are running whatsoever since they feel like it's something that they could never accomplish themselves, or are b) so much more athletic than you that they'd be blase about anything less than an olympic event. I like Camp A (I used to belong to it). B campers can lick my running shoes.

I'm leaving for Toronto tomorrow to start my vacation. Don't worry, I'm packing my gear.

Our run yesterday was phenomenal. I had been worried - we hadn't run all week due to crazy busyness on both our parts (second interview and funeral for Beth, conference submission for me), and so it was very possible that a 10 mile run was going to kick our asses. Probable, even.

I actually think that all the pent up energy from "hell week" (as I've come to call it) helped me out. The first four miles were the easiest four miles we've ever run... It really didn't start to get hard until mile 7 or 8.

It took us 2 hours to run those ten miles (12mm). I can understand why some people could be turned off by distance running (it's actually quite boring), but the psychological benefits are truly incredible.

Though I wish that I could say the same about the physical benefits... The run really took a lot out of us, and our knees are SORE. I think it's iliotibial band syndrome, but I have to look into it further. I'm sure there are some exercises and stretches that'd help us out. We'... Read full entry

Hm, it's obvious that I've felt guilty about our adherence to the training schedule since I managed to skip five weeks of logging running data and blogs.

A lot has happened in this past month. The biggest bummer is that the funding for Beth's job unexpectedly ran out and she's now jobless. It's probably a good thing for her (motivation to move onto other opportunities), but I'm selfishly sulking over the imminent loss of my running partner. What the hell will I do when she moves to Manhattan?

Running-wise, I haven't been great at keeping track of our runs...but I think we were averaging about 2.5 runs a week. We ran two 5K races in under 30mins each, and have increased our distance to 9 miles. Pretty good for a desk jockey, right?

Something possibly problematic is my recent development of creaky knees. I've noticed them getting sore during & after runs (especially those long ones, oof!), but the effects are longer lasting than I would like...actually, it hasn't totally gone a... Read full entry

Hmmm...Beth and I are slacking recently. For the past few weeks we've only run twice a week instead of our scheduled three. We'll have to make a greater effort from here on out.

Today we were planning on 9 miles, but we had to cut that in half so that Beth could go home and pee (we had already stopped once at a gas station...and we knew there weren't going to be anymore gas stations). We're obviously still trying to figure out the best strategies for hydration and the like. We'll just do the full 9 next week, and the following week is our 5K race that'll serve as our recovery run (feels good calling 5K a recovery run :)

I'm also feeling pretty good knowing that two weeks in a row we've gotten up before 6 to run. I am NOT a morning person, and so this is quite an accomplishment for me. Beth told me this morning that she's only ever hit the snooze button twice in her life, and that blew my mind.
