Here we go again
Thursday, 28 January 2010 - Written by jmccaman [profile]
I'm getting back into running after a long 3-month break. I'm hoping to train for the April half-marathon, but it really does feel like starting from the beginning. I love my new shoes -- now I just have to earn them. I'm graphing my weight on log your run and lately the lines are moving in the wrong direction. Here's to a new running season!

2nd half
Saturday, 03 October 2009 - Written by jmccaman [profile]
Completed my second half ever today (2:33). I ran with my sister (her first). It was an incredible run. Perfect weather, flat course, not very crowded. My knees are killing me, but other than that -- feeling great! I'm ready for a running break, but I'm trying to run 500 miles total for the year. I've got another 150 or so to go. Great race day!!

New Respect
Tuesday, 15 September 2009 - Written by jmccaman [profile]
I typically work from home, but for 3 months I'm filling in for a friend at work about 40 min away. I have to be there at 6:30 am and I usually get off around 4 then start my runs. Running at that time of day is miserable, not only because of the heat, but because I'm so tried at that point.
I just want to say congrats to all you people who work 9 hour days, have kids, spouses and still put in your running hours. Training for a marathon/ half marathon is definitley not something for the faint of heart. It's discipline -- and up till now, not much sacrifice for me. I'm looking forward to running at 7am again. I won't complain as much. Happy running!

Beating the Heat
Saturday, 29 August 2009 - Written by jmccaman [profile]
I'm training for my second half marathon (with my sister), but this time in hotter weather. It's going really well and we have 5 weeks left. We completed an 8 mile run this morning at exactly a 12 minute pace. It's strange how the hot weather slows you down. I averaged about 11 min miles last winter. I will not shoot to break my PR this time, and I know that's okay. I'll wait and do that next spring when the weather is cooler. Running is a great sport! I'm addicted.

500 mile goal
Friday, 07 August 2009 - Written by jmccaman [profile]
I just realized if I follow my training schedule and complete my next half marathon in October, then run 10 miles a week till the end of the year, I will have run 500 miles this year! I'm so excited. This is my first year running, and I would love to run 500 miles. Hopefully it will happen!

Hot Weather Help
Sunday, 19 July 2009 - Written by jmccaman [profile]
Does anyone have tips for running in hot weather? I starting running in February this year and have NEVER run in humid, hot weather before. I get exhausted easily and it is truly nothing like running in the spring. I set out to run 4 on saturday and had to stop after 3. I ran a half marathon in April, and I'm exhausted after 3 miles? come on. Any ideas?

In order to beat the AZ heat and sun, I start running shortly before sunrise. Check out the article "Beat the Heat" in the Training section from Runnersworld.com.

Good luck.

I run without a shirt, but that might not work for you.
Early in the morning or late in the evening and lots of water for me. It's still tough in the heat.

Great! Thanks for the ideas!

2nd Half marathon Training
Tuesday, 14 July 2009 - Written by jmccaman [profile]
I'm officially signed up to run in another half marathon in Oct. I'm excited and nervous because I know training in the summer is totally different than training in winter. Even though I haven't run consistently for 2 months, I'm not as out of shape as I thought I'd be. I'm also training with my sister (her first), so i'm running at a slower pace. I can't wait to get back into it!
