Metric Marathon and recovery no pain

After the Half marathon I ran last month and the pain I felt in my foot after, I was a little nervous going into this 26.2k. I ran a 10k a couple of weeks ago with no pain but wasnt sure if this distance would cause a flare up. The course and the weather was the only painful parts about the run. The race was a triple loop. So round and round we went passing people and getting passed by eletes and relay runners the whole time. The weather started off at 67 degrees with 100% humidity it misted on us a little from time to time but didnt stop the heat from rising up to 82 by the time I finished. I ran the first loop at just over my half marathon pace but quickly realized with the weather I would dehydrate and bonk if I didnt slow down and make sure to hit every water station. So on laps 2 and 3 I slowed down and walk at every one from the first person at the waterstation to the last trash can drinking as much fluids as I could. My second and 3rd laps were much slower because of this but I finished respectfully and didnt cramp or hurt myself. Sometimes we have to slow down and live to run another race another day. I ran a 2:20:28 about an 8:35 min/mile pace. These 16+ miles is the furthest I have run in over a decade. So I was really happy just to finish. I think that my confidence and my body are ready for the Half at the end of January. I am going to run at least one 5k between now and then but other than that I am going to just concentrate on getting in quality runs and making sure I peak for this race.

I took two days off after the metric marathon and just got back out there today. I ran on a treadmill this morning to lower the force of the impact on somewhat still sore legs. I felt great. I ran a 5k at a 7:30 pace. I could have gone faster and farther but stuck with the plan. I may start using the treadmill for my short runs just to minimize the amount of impact I am putting my joints through. However I dont think I could ever go much more than 3 or 4 miles on a mill without loosing my mind. Its just not for me.

Sounds like you're MORE than ready for the half in January!!! Way to go, so glad you didn't get injured and that you're having a good recovery.

Awesome!!

Well done. I have never run a metric marathon (other than running a 16 miler in training). It sounds like a fun distance for a race.
