Beginning...again

So I have been trying to beginning running on and off for a couple of years now. I enjoy the stress relief of exercise. I am a more patient, contented person when I exercise regularly. Running is the only type of exercise that I have had any luck sticking with for more than a few weeks. I like being able to set small goals and work towards bigger ones. Each day that I run, I feel that I have accomplished something good. So now my challange is continuing to work on thoses goals in the long term and not let life get in the way of things.

I started to get into a good routine about 2 years ago and then I became pregnant with my second child. After he was born, I began again but over did it and hurt myself. By the time I was healed and ready to go again, winter was starting and my son was going through a phase on wanting to wake up super early. He would only go back to sleep if I would lay down with him. So if I left to go run in the cold, dark winter morning, my husband was left with a crying baby. Clearly that did not last long.

So I tried to do P90X this winter in hopes of going right back to running when spring came and the baby was older. I did okay, but did not finish the whole program. If the baby was up, my husband was up and wanted to get ready for work and on with his day. I could not convince them to pretend like I was running and not even there if I was exercising in front of the tv in the living room.

So now spring is here and I am running again. I am hoping that this time the routine sticks and I can really make some progress as far as getting in better shape, improving my times, and increasing my endurance. I have set a goal of running a marathon this year in hopes of motivating myself to stick with it. I am not overdoing it this time. I am just trying to take it slow and build up.

I hope to run some more races this year, instead of the one or two that I have done in years past. I hope to get to a point where I can consider myself a real runner and not just someone who runs from time to time. But we will see.

I'm a re-beginner myself and totally get the "life got in the way of running" experience. Way to commit to yourself that you're going to do this. Again. ;)

I highly recommend the RunnersWorld.com SmartCoach feature for developing a methodical training program (with less chance of overtraining and injury).

This is your time!
