The crazies have set in.
Monday, 08 February 2010 - Written by mirmir [profile]
I spoke with my sister tonight and she is thinking about running a half marathon in the fall sometime. I have caught her excitement and am now thinking of joining her. I think I have caught a case of the crazies. I have really only run 5k's, though when we run our duathlon in the summer, it is a combined total of 7.5k of running. However, I am slow and have a reputation of undertraining and getting lazy with my running, to my detriment come race day, so, to train better and feel faster on race days, I will post my running goals this year, and when I intend to reach these goals. Then I will tell Katie about them, and I will therefore have a better chance at sticking with it.

So...

1. run a 5k in 28 min. (I have yet to break 30min)

2. run a 10k in 1 hour. (never run this distance)

3. run a 1/2 m. in 2 hours. (!)

When will I accomplish these distances and times?

1. 5k/28min: Tues. mar. 30th 2010

my neighbourhood, Brynley timing it.

2. 10k/60min: Sun. apr. 25th 2010

Muddy River Run, Chatham, ON

3. 21k/120min: Sun. Sept. 26th Scotiabank TO

or Sunday Oct. 17th Toronto Waterfront

I have entered a 10k training plan into my training log to end the week before the 10k in April.

Good luck me!

good for you for setting goals, but believe me when i say that breaking 2:00:00 for a half marathon is ONE HELL of a lot harder than breaking 60mins for a 10k - especially since you say you tend to slack on training.

i run a 5k in 26mins, a 10k in 55mins, and my time at the goodlife fitness half (oct 18/09) was 2:09:24. if you're going for a PR, do the goodlife one - it'll beat the living hell out of you, since a lot of it is downhill (except running up out of hoggs hollow - that sucks), but it's a fast course. scotiabank waterfront is pretty much flat.

best of luck!

thanks for the advice, mistressk! I don't really have a concept of length of time needed for that 1/2 marathon. Perhaps a good idea would be to reevaluate time goals after I have successfully completed the 10k. 2 hours is a pretty high goal for me.
