I did the couch to 5k program and felt pretty good about it. I got bored with the running after I tried a 5 mile but maxed out at 4.2. I felt I wasn't progressing. |
Instead I joined the gym which I didn't think was working particularly brilliantly. I wasn't getting the weight loss results I wanted (I recently lost 6 stone/84 lbs and have about 32 pounds more to go but the gym isn't shifting it) so figured I'd get running again.
On Friday I clocked a 4.2 mile without really breaking a sweat.
Yesterday I did 6.5 and felt it but thought i'd try again tonight. And boy was I pleased. Managed to do a 10.2 mile lap of my home town which is something I used to stuggle with on my bike - obviously the gym has been doing something! The last mile was really tough but pushed through it and there were some punishing climbs.
I'm going to blog mainly to keep myself motivated, share my story and seek advice from others and pass it on when I think i can.
I'm considering a heart rate monitor if anyone can recommend one for the iPhone 4 which integrates with LYY (I'm price sensitive, cheaper the better!) And if anyone could link me to a good stretching routine to do before/after - my quads and calves are a bit sore at the moment!!
