The first half ironman is in the books. 6:07:41. Already planning on doing New Orleans 70.3 in April and going sub 6 hours. I can definitely take a lot of time off my bike, I suck at cycling and have a lot of room for improvement. I also think I can take some minutes off the half marathon, even after swimming and biking. My running is getting stronger all the time. 36 minute 1.2 mile swim, 3 hours 13 minutes (windy) 56 mile ride, 2 hour 11 min 13.2 mile run, and a few minutes for each transition. Happy, but not satisfied.

I am always impressed with triatheletes...it's been challenging for me to train for my half marathon, let alone the swimming and biking.
I am decent on the bicycle, but the swimming part would sink me (bad pun intended!!).
Congrats on this mega accomplishment, and best of luck in your training for the next event. I'm sure you can take a lot of time off the cycling portion with persistence!!
A month out from my first half ironman and I was on a Metric Century ride on Saturday. Windy and hilly, around mile 30 the wind blew me sideways and when I went to swerve back on the road I caught a rut and went down HARD. Finished the ride (another 36 miles) but was bleeding pretty badly from my chin (somehow banged my chin on the pavement), so I went to a walk in doc on the way home. Three stitches and a hairline fracture later.... I think I was lucky it wasn't worse.
Took yesterday off and ran an easy 5 this morning. Not supposed to swim again for a week, which bites, cuz I was planning to an open water yesterday afternoon. I think I'll go ahead and do a pool swim on Thursday, it ought to be closed enough by then.
I'll ride tomorrow with my group, but will probably be nervous, lol
First Olympic Tri in 9 years Saturday, only second one in my lifetime. Pretty happy with how I did, but I seriously need to learn how to ride a bike! People that I can kill on the swim and hang with or beat on the run just blow past me on the bike leg. What is the secret to powerful cycling? Other than getting out there and putting in the miles, of course, which I am trying to do....
So I've signed up for a sprint tri in 2 weeks. I'm a great swimmer, an ok jogger, and a lousy biker. Should be fun! I don't even have a road bike, lol, I'll be riding a hybrid.

Go for it. Good luck!

No worries about the bike. You will see all different kinds. Have fun. It is a blast.

You will do great. I did the same thing last summer i signed up the week before. My weakness was the swim because I havent ever swam that kind of distance before and I had a garage sale bike. I looked at the tri as something I would be happy to say I finished and really wasnt going for a specific time but just enjoyed the experience. The swim was hard for me but I didnt drown so I figured I would be able to handle the biking and running. And dont get intimidated about the selection of bikes at the event there will be some really expensive road bikes and some huffy bikes there as well. Think positive and enjoy the experience.
After stuggling to get over that blasted stress fracture, I am now ALMOST back to where I was a year ago. At the end of April last year I ran a half marathon and averaged just over 10 minute miles, and this morning I ran a 15k and averaged right at 10 minute miles. So finally I feel like I'm getting back in shape. I hate how long it takes to heel when you are middle aged!!!
Cautiously returning to running after the 6 week lay off for the stress fracture. Have done a couple of 2 mile jogs, then 3 miles on Tues and 4 miles today. So far stress fracture pain is gone. Now if I can keep from ramping up too fast...but gosh I do love to run.

Welcome back. Sorry to hear about the stress fracture. Take it slow.
I have a stress fracture on my medial tibia. Please post happy healing stories for me to read so that I don't get too depressed that my marathon training is in jeopardy. The marathon isn't until November, so its not a total loss....as long as this thing heals properly.....

Try biking while you heal!!

I agree! Nothing makes guy feel better than spending some cash on a bike and logging some real distance.
Get on the two wheeled transport and fly.

Ah bummer, it sounded like things had been going pretty well for you this year, you should be fine though. You already have some good long runs and races in. XT like Johnny and Patrick said, if for no other reason to keep your sanity and mojo going.
