Whoa! You should be so proud of yourself for working this hard so far. Getting back into an active lifestyle is hard work, both mentally and physically. Whatever you do, don't embrace an attitude of self-defeat because you [i]are[/i] getting stronger (A running bumper sticker comes to mind: It doesn't get any easier. You just get faster.)
Sounds like today was just an off-day. As a runner, you just have to accept them because they happen. After an off-5-miler last weekend, I had to regroup and give myself an easy week because I'd been training hard for about a month without allowing my body and mind to rest. It's OK to walk, too. At least you're not sitting on the couch--you're moving!
As for the 10K in a month: GO FOR IT! You can do it--just believe in yourself!
