Music or no music??? - 2010/03/19 12:48 Hey Ro Runner!

I'm like you...I need my iPod!

Anywho, nike makes a great athletic headset. they are like earbuds but they have these things that sorta clip onto the ear. I had to buy them too because the others kept falling out of my ear. They make them in black & white & they sell them almost anywhere. I got mine at Target. :)

Re:Music or no music??? - 2010/03/19 16:28 Most of the races say they don't allow them, but they don't seem to ever stop anyone from using them, so it doesn't seem to be strictly enforced.

I also used to be scared to leave the house without my ipod, but I think running my long runs with a partner got me out of that habit and gradually I have gotten to the point where I feel as comfortable with or without it on solo runs.
Also, if you can't go without the music, you can always choose races with bands on the course!

Re:Music or no music??? - 2010/03/19 21:06 professorbeast - that's good to know about not enforcing the no iPod rule during races, I'm not advanced enough to not need my music while I run. Maybe someday.

johnnyk8 - I haven't graduated to the newer iPod's yet, not have I got a smart phone. I will look into a bluetooth once I have the proper technology.

shipshape - I got some crappy magnovox earbuds with the clips, maybe I just need to get the right sized ones. I was looking into the ones that wrap behind the head.

Re:Music or no music??? - 2010/03/20 10:59 For headphone recommendations- I've had problems with many types of headphones running, until I found behind-the-ear and neck band headphones. They stay on great, are really comfortable, and have excellent sound quality. They are costly, but well worth it!

Some examples:
My current favorite are Sony MDR-AS50
Other good ones are made by Sennheiser (for example, the PMX80)

Re:Music or no music??? - 2010/03/20 13:15 I also cannot run without music. I've run all my races including one marathon with my iPod and have never had a problem. For headphones, I highly recommend Sennheiser's PMX80 behind the ear phones. They are sturdy, sweat resistant and have great sound quality (e.g. you don't hear the thud-thud of your foot strikes) when you run.

Re:Music or no music??? - 2010/03/20 13:16 agree the sennheiser PMX80 are the best to wear also waterproof so they dont corrode/break when it rains! i,ve tried loads and these are by far the best for comfort durability and value

Re:Music or no music??? - 2010/03/20 16:49 I'm a purist. I've never run with music, and probably never will. But I understand why some people like it. Not me, I want my mind to wander freely and my senses attuned to the outside. I like to be "in the moment" when I'm running. So much of the rest of my day has distractions, that my runs are a nice "down time" from noise, input, digital or otherwise.
