Lookin for a GPS Watch. Suggestions? - 2010/03/10 02:46 <Probably best to give us an idea what you're going to be using it for.
You suggest water resistance is important. Are you taking it swimming?

If(like me) you always run the same set of routes, then you can get away with the garmin forerunner 50. Used to be cheap as chips, now a little more pricey, but much cheaper than the alternatives. -i think i read somewhere that the watch drowns if you take it swimming, but that the chest-strap is fine.

As soon as you start running off the beaten track your gps(or at least a footpod) become necessary, and that's when the price starts climbing...>

You don't mention if this is actually for running or if you even want your hr measured... so i could be completely off base...

can you clarify what the gps is for?

Re:Lookin for a GPS Watch. Suggestions? - 2010/03/11 06:51 Thanks for the response.

I do tend to use new routes all the time as I travel for work. I'm not too concerned about the heart rate meter. My wife would tease me if I wore the strap anyway.

So here is my wish list

+ water proof (might do some triathlons but more for protection)
+ 1 pcs (prefer not to have a "pod"
+ tracking GPS
+ website import
+ for running and biking mostly

Looks like the 305 and the 405 are pretty good and I saw the 405 sold for under $200 with membership discounts.

Am I missing something?
