Went to the gym to escape the 100+ deg weather we are having down here and hit the treadmill. I had it in my mind that I would do 8 miles. I did about a 6 min warm up run and then stretched. I varied my speed from 5.5mph to 6.5mph depending on what my body was saying for the majority of the run. I read a book by Jeff Galloway and in that book Jeff talks about incorporating walk breaks into your runs. I have been doing that for about a month now and the results have been great! I took 30 sec walk breaks at 1.5m, 3m. 4m, 5m, 6m, and 7 miles. I ended up finishing 8 miles in 1:27:01 which was just under an eleven minute pace. The only thing holding you back is you. We all have our excuses for not pursuing what we want. Mine was pain and time. Running really really hurts at first, but you get over the pain after a while, and then you hurt if you don't run. Time is a factor in almost everyones lives....you can make time if you make your goal a PRIORITY. I gave up sleep and social time to make room for my runs. For all of you... Read full entry
