Austin 3M Half
Thursday, 24 January 2008 - Written by matt_kimball_TX [profile]
OK,

Just finished up my training for the Austin 3M Half. I feel pretty good about it. Though, I'm not going to go "all out" as I'm also running the AT&T Half three weeks later.

Target time for this race is 8:00-8:15. I do think it's doable.

Target for AT&T will be 7:45. I think that's doable as well.

Freakin' Bronchitis
Saturday, 20 October 2007 - Written by matt_kimball_TX [profile]
So,
I was just starting to get back into my routine when I came down with bronchitis.

I think it hit me about a week ago (Saturday). I could feel myself coughing just a little - and a little tightness in my chest. But, I did my shorter run anyway. On Sunday, I set out to do a 10 miler. When I was getting ready, I could feel that I wasn't quite right. Coughing a bit, and tummy not quite right. So, this turned into a slow 7.5 miler. Monday - I felt knocked out - but went to work. Have been in bed since Tuesday.

I'm going nuts - can't really do anything without a nasty coughing fit accompanying my activities.

I'm hoping that I can pick back up this upcoming Tuesday - just start the new week like I normally would. That will me a full week lost.

OK - this is my first post - and the intent is to give context.

I'm a 41 YO runner. Have been at this for about 8 years now.

Have run 3 marathons. All really bad times. My best marathon is about 4:20. Don't think I've ever really trained like I should.

When I'm running like I should, I'm between 35-40 mi. per week.

When I'm not? In the 20's. Lately, I have been "not". But this is due mainly to allergies followed by a relocation from Florida to TX.

Average pace up through 1/2 marathon is in the 7:20 range. I drop off considerably after that.

Favorite race distance is the half - without a doubt. 15K is pretty good. 10K a little too short and 5K - those are for t-shirts.

Full Marathon? I like it more for the sense of accomplishment and less for the distance and experience.

My short term goals are to get back to consistently running my weekly goals and getting my weight back down another 8 pounds or so.

Long term goal is to get to a 3:30 pac... Read full entry
