1st Week

Today is the end of my first week of training. On Friday, really pushed the pace. I was dying at the end of it, but Im sure it will help me in the long run. On Tuesday, I took it easy on the bike knowing that if I pushed it too hard, I would really feel it the next day. I am looking forward to stretching that out as time goes on. EZ run on Saturday morning felt really good. Slowed down the pace and felt strong at the finish.

First Day!

I have run off and on for a while. From 2000-2003 ran regularly. Completed the Chicago Lake Front 10-Miler in April of 2003.

My HS buddy Darren just completed the OK City Memorial Marathon in April. I figured if he can do it I can. He also told me if I trained he would run my first marathon with me. He also said, as I got to longer runs, he would do them with me if needed.

There is to be an inaugural marathon Champaign-Urbana in April of 2009. That is what I am aiming for. I have started by training for a 10K in late July early August. From there, hopefully a half-marathon in the fall. Then the hard part will be continuing to train over the winter.

I have been wanting to get more serious about this myself so today I registered for the Disney Princess Half 2009. My sister (ran the 2008 Disney Marathon) will be my teammate next March. Considering my 5k best is 39 minutes- I have a long way to go. I am using a combo Galloway and Higdon training program.

You can do this- it sounds like you have everything set in your mind and a support group. Run boy Run!
