8 weeks to my first 8k

| I'm not an ironman like by brother-in-law and I'm not a marathoner like some friends at work. Last summer, I decided to get in shape and start running again. The only way to keep myself running and not quit was to set a goal and commit to one 5k race. I found one in September, the Lung Run in Chicago. After I told some friends about it, the support took off and I was told about other races. I ran the Turkey Trot in November doubling my goal of one 5k to two. In 2008, I plan on running in 5 5k's. The one everyone says not to miss in Chicago is the Shamrock Shuffle. It sells out at 30,000 runners and sells out fast...and it did...but not before I entered it. But to this beginners dismay, the 5k is not a 5k, it's an 8k. I haven't run that since high school (over 25 years ago!) I quickly did a search on-line for training programs, found one I liked and modified it. Look for it under "Bruce's 8k in 8 weeks."
