Two weeks til Boston
Sunday, 06 April 2008 - Written by Taco [profile]
3 solid months of training and its time to back down...am I ready? I think so...but still have my normal doubts and fears before a marathon....multiplied by 100 cuz its Boston...my training and plans have me on course for a sub 3 marthon...2:59:59 will be fine....I really want this bad

So week 1 of my taper will drop mileage, but not pace...every time I run this week I need to be under 6:54....

40 total miles....6 running days....big week and I'm ready for it....

...then I will enjoy a real easy taper week leading up to the 21st....

I'm ready

2008 - Year To Compete
Friday, 04 January 2008 - Written by Taco [profile]
Will start using this blog to document a year that I hope will be one full of reaching goals. I'm 44 years old and consider myself very goal oriented and a half decent runner...14 marathons under my belt, one of which has me qualified for Boston this year. So what do I want? I want to dedicate this year to being the best possible runner I can be...to see what I actually am capable of doing as a runner...by training as hard as I can and being serious about it...5 main goals to achieve
1) sub 3 hr marathon
2) sub 18:30 5k
3) 2000 miles
4) sub 1:30 half marathon
5) qualify for 2009 Boston

So three days into my training its going pretty well...a decent track workout, a good tempo run and a good bridge (hills run)...body feels great...main concern is can I get my pace down into the 6's on a regular basis...hope so...we will see

Eve of Training Program
Monday, 17 September 2007 - Written by Taco [profile]
I cant lie...13 marathons later and I'm very excited about training for Jacksonville Marathon starting tomorrow...why? because our Club, El Guapo running club of Jacksonville Florida has committed numerous runners to this and the 1/2 Marathon. We as a group have come so far in a year...to share a goal is exciting to me...so I sacrifice another state in order to be a teammate and coach for this....its an easy sacrifice if you knew the members in this group...some running their first...others chasing lofty goals like Boston...all caring and watching out for the others....but man for man, women for women, this group inspires me daily....kind, loyal and driven...each and every one of them....proud to be with them.....

My goal....I'll stick it right out their....2:59:59....and I'm going to do everything in my power to stick to training to get there....and to have all my team reach their goals....

Cant wait for tomorow!

El Guapo Running Club Track Workout
Tuesday, 11 September 2007 - Written by Taco [profile]
Our club meets on tuesdays to do track/speed work...today we had ten runners and the group workout consisted of 4 400's, 4 200's, 4 100's...our track workouts are designed by our track expert Kim. This particular workout is one of my favorites since they are done in decreasing distance...which allows you to maintain maximum effort as the distances decrease...several people do their own thing...which is an added benefit of track.....and its fun having other runners out with you when you have a tough workout.
