Well,
I didnt do any walking last week, due to my left ankle being painful after the long walk the previous sunday.
I have kept up with the swimming though, which didnt seem to bother it at a ll, and I am going to do about 2 miles walking tonight.
I've put my walk/run plan back till next week, really dont want to get injured, especially so early on in training!!!
I'll see how things feel on monday and then start the running thing if I think I might survive! |

| Well, I'm not convinced that 24 lengths of the pool this morning will make up in any way for the huge amount of Tapas I consumed last night at the works dinner. But it did make me a feel a little bit less of a slob! |

Over 10%

Well, according to Log Your Run I should not be increasing my weekly milage by more than 10% a week. It's difficult because I dont think I have reached a point yet where I am pushing myself at all. I didnt want to dive straight in having never trained properly before, but I am fitter than I expected to be and with the asthma and all have been taking it steady in this cold weather, but still, I dont think I have pushed myself in any real way and I am breaking the 10% rule EVERY week.
I dont know if I should be slowing down, but if I do I will feel like I have done nothing. I'm still trying to find the point where I can really start working myself, I still feel like what I'm doing is very easy.
Tricky. |

Walked 3.5ish miles in 52 minutes this morning, feels good to look back at the monthly graphs and calendar and see what I have done.
Only 2 more weeks of walks before I start the running program, I'm really looking forward to it. |

Managed to drag myself out of bed at about 6.30 to go for a half hour walk before work, as a result I am really tired!
I need to get into more of a routine, go to bed earlier and things. . . |

| Spent a couple of hours walking in the mud in some pretty woodlands today. We think we walked 4-5 miles and it was really nice, even saw a couple of butterflies! |

Well, I started well, by getting up at 6.15 as planned, to go for a walk. But the rain and wind were horrible and I was feeling a bit chickeny.
Does half an hour of walking on the spot in front of the TV count? (I did my stretches). |
The Short One says: 15 minutes walking on the spot in front of the TV would count for me! Beats getting wet before work and having to get dry all over again!
Kwiddows says: Indeed, and I think its also good to just get int othe habit of getting up early and doing SOMETHING, it would have been easy to just rot in bed for an extra hour!

. . . I also had a fantastic massage after work - I think the swim/massage combination today has done me a lot of good.
Taking tomorrow easy to get the full benefit. |

Swimming!

Well, its been nearly 2 years since I swam properly, but with my newly renewed sports centre membership at work swimming is free and its nicer than walking when the rain is this heavy! (I dont understand why being wet in a pool is better than being wet outside, but it is).
So I got up extra early and went to meet a colleague to swim before work - thats dedication!
Unfortunatly the bus was late and I only got 15 mins in the pool, but still did 15 lengths with no real effort and a couple of rest stops. Making sure I start slow - no more migranes and no asthma problems for me.
I think swimming once a week will be great. Planned again for next Tuesday (will be getting the earlier bus though). |

Getting back into it

After a good first week of walking nearly every day I had a migrain and it didnt properly clear up for nearly another week!
Bum!
I'm back to normal now though, so went on a 2 mile walk with my mum on Saturday, but took it slow because the last thing I want is to be out of action for another week!
I'm going to give swimming a go before work on Tuesday, and see how that feels. I htink swimming will let me work harder without having probelsm with my asthma, so might be a good thing to do alongside the walks.
Wish me luck! |

New Year New Plans!

I'm aiming to do the Great North Run half marathon in October.
I have not run since I was at school, about 14 years ago, and I am starting very much from scratch as a new project for this year.
I am going very slowly at first, and have started by walking this week, about 1.9 miles a day for the last 3 days. Tomorrow will be a rest day and I will pick up again on Sunday.
Being asthmatic I have to be very careful, especially in this cold weather. But I am determind to be ready in time for October. I just have to hope I get a place!
There is also a 10K in June near where I live, so I hope to get into that too, the distance should fit well with my training plans.
Heres to success!!!! |
